Our History and Philosophy

Kerlin Capital Group was launched in 1994 based on a simple observation: many companies did not have access to long-term, relationship-based advisors and investment bankers. The big banks were focused exclusively on large corporations, and those banks that did work with mid-sized companies employed a high-turnaround, transaction-focused business model. Today, more than 15 years later, that observation still holds true.

When we first set out, we wanted to do something different, and we dedicated ourselves to demonstrating the value that an independent advisor could bring to company executives, boards and owners. We are and will remain a boutique firm, with no aspirations to one day compete in size and scope with major Wall Street firms. Each of our clients gets the full benefit of our team, and in turn our team’s individual and collective experience grows through collaboration and spans a multitude of businesses, industries and transaction types.

Additionally, our independent nature — we are both privately held and intensely entrepreneurial — gives us the freedom necessary to always act in the best interest of our clients, not a group of shareholders or other business lines who expect us to cross-sell products.

Is this old-fashioned? Perhaps. But by staying true to a relationship-based model throughout the years, we have established ourselves as a premier advisory-focused investment bank, helping clients define and carry out their most critical strategic goals.

“Over the past decade, I worked closely with Bill Doyle and Kerlin on four M&A assignments that were highly sensitive and critical to our mutual clients. In each case, Bill provided leadership and quality advice.” Peter Ziegler Retired Partner, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher
