Kings County Truck Lines now part of Ruan

Trucks carrying the Kings County Truck Lines logo will rumble across California as they have for more than half a century, but as of this week, they’re owned by a different company.

The purchase of the Tulare-based company by Ruan Transportation Management Systems Inc., of Des Moines, Iowa, first announced last summer, became final Thursday.

The Kings County assets will retain their current names at this time and operate as a part of Ruan’s nationwide network, the company says.

“This is the merging of two companies with similar heritage, values and customer service philosophies,” says John Ruan III, company chairman, in a written statement. “Ruan and Kings County each have decades of experience in our respective areas of expertise. We are excited about the synergies and benefits this merger brings to our collective customers.”

Kings County Truck Lines is one of the nation’s largest regional food grade carriers. The transaction includes Kings County Truck Lines, Inc. and its affiliates Cal Western Transport, Inc., Fluid Transport, Inc., California Milk Transport, Inc., and MSM Trucking, LLC. All Kings County employees and those of its affiliates are now Ruan employees.

Manual Mancebo, Sr., founded Kings County in 1940. The company primarily hauls milk products in bulk tank, mainly in liquid form, from producers to processing plants and later processed products to distribution centers and store locations. Kings County operates 12 terminals in California, Oregon, Arizona and Idaho and employs approximately 600 people.
